An ostrich is a score of 5 under par on a hole.
In other words, a hole-in-one on a par 6 hole.
Par 6’s don’t exist in professional golf, so I don’t view them as legitimate golf holes.
An ostrich is essentially impossible to achieve, as par 6 holes are novelties that very few courses even offer.
The odds of making an ostrich are fundamentally zero.
I’m not even sure why there is a name for this score, as it has never happened and never will.
At least not on a true par 6 hole that is well over 600 yards and not some gimmicky massive dogleg where a line can be taken to cut a couple of hundred yards off the hole.
Even then, the chances of a hole-in-one happening on a par 6 are so infinitesimally small that I am annoyed that I even wrote this article about it.
So there you have it: an ostrich is a score of 5 under par for a hole.
Now forget that you learned that, and I’m sorry you wasted your time learning this useless bit of information.
