In golf, a “stick“ refers to a very good golfer.
If someone is referred to as a “stick,” it likely means they are a scratch golfer or better.
Although many people use it as a relative term, meaning a 20 handicapper might refer to a 5 handicapper as a “stick,” I wouldn’t refer to anyone as a stick unless they are a plus handicap.
A stick isn’t your buddy that occasionally shoots 72 but mostly shoots closer to 80.
A stick is a player that can go low and does so frequently.
A stick regularly shoots even par or better and likely played some collegiate golf or semi-pro golf.
When a stick flushes it on the range, the 18 handicappers and weekend hackers cannot help but watch.
It just looks and sounds different when a stick hits it.
If you’re not sure if you should be calling someone a stick, you shouldn’t.
