Men’s vs. Women’s Golf Clubs

Men’s vs. Women’s Golf Clubs

Golf is a sport enjoyed worldwide by both men and women, and with the game’s increasing popularity, manufacturers have developed clubs specifically designed for each gender.

While the core principles of the game remain the same, there are notable differences between men’s and women’s golf clubs to cater to the varying physical characteristics and swing mechanics.

Differences Between Men’s And Women’s Golf Clubs

Difference Between Women’s and Men’s Golf Clubs Explained

Men’s clubs are generally longer, stiffer, and heavier than women’s clubs.

Why?

Because, in general, men are taller and physically stronger than women.

Men’s grips are typically a little bigger than women’s because, in general, men’s hands are bigger than women’s hands.

It’s really that simple.

That being said, there are plenty of women out there that swing faster than some men.

Some women are also bigger and stronger than some men.

Women’s clubs are the correct weight and length for most women.

Tips for Choosing Your Clubs

The best way is to get fitted by a professional.

Although the vast majority of women will be fit into women’s clubs, it’s still worth getting fitted to ensure you are playing the right equipment for your swing.

If you’re a beginner and don’t want to spend the money on a fitting just yet, here is my advice:

Women:  Absolutely, 100%; start with women’s clubs.

Men: Start with clubs with regular flex shafts and go from there.

One of the best things you can do when starting out is to ensure that the shaft flex of your clubs matches your swing speed.

A more flexible shaft is suitable for slower swing speeds, while a stiffer shaft is ideal for faster swings.

This is very important, especially for men.

Just as men are much more likely to lift heavier weights than they can safely manage in the gym, they are also much more likely to use a stiffer shaft than they should.

Your game will thank you if you get properly fitted and play with the correct shafts.
